What is PRF?

PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, is a natural fibrin matrix created from the patient’s own blood that contains high concentrations of platelets, growth factors, and cytokines. This bio-material is used to promote healing and tissue regeneration.

How does Platelet- Rich- Fibrin work?

A small sample of the patient’s blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge to separate its components: red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. The fibrin matrix enriched with platelets and growth factors forms and is collected. The PRF is then injected into the target area to stimulate healing and rejuvenation.

What are the benefits of PRF injections?

Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) injections offer several significant benefits:

  • Regeneration: PRF contains a high concentration of growth factors that accelerate the body’s natural healing processes. These factors stimulate tissue regeneration, collagen production and angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels)
  • Natural and safe:  Since PRF is derived from the patient’s own blood, there’s minimal risk of allergic reactions or immune responses. This makes it a biocompatible and safe treatment option.
  • Sustained release of growth factors: PRF provides a slow, sustained release of growth factors over time. This prolonged release enhances long-term healing and regeneration.
  • Minimally invasive: The process involves a simple blood draw, centrifugation and injection, making it less invasive compared to other surgical procedures. Patients often experience minimal downtime, allowing them to resume normal activities more quickly. PRF injections improve skin texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance overall skin tones and youthfulness.
  • Wound healing: PRF has been shown to enhance the healing of chronic wounds and ulcers, providing a much-needed option for patients with non-healing wounds.
  • Reduce inflammation: PRF can help reduce inflammation at the treatment site, leading to quicker and more comfortable healing.

Applications of PRF in aesthetic medicine

Facial rejuvenation

  • PRF injections stimulate collagen production, which improves skin elasticity and reduces fine lines and wrinkles. PRF can restore volume in areas like the cheeks and under eye hollows, where aging often causes loss of fullness.
  • Helps smooth out fine lines around the eyes, forehead and mouth, and with repeated treatments PRF can reduce the appearance of deeper wrinkles.

Scar treatment

  • Acne scars: PRF promotes healing and remodeling of the skin, which reduces the appearance of acne scars over time.
  • Surgical and traumatic scars: Enhances scar healing and improves their appearance by stimulating tissue regeneration.

Under eye rejuvenation

  • Dark circles: PRF improves the skin thickness under the eyes, reducing dark circles and puffiness. Also reduces tear trough area, making patients look more rested and youthful.

How often do you need to do this treatment?

Typically, a series of treatments spaced a few weeks apart is recommended to achieve optimal results. Maintenance sessions every 6 to 12 months help sustain the benefits.

Who’s a good candidate for PRF injections?

Platelet- Rich -Fibrin (PRF) injections are often used for various medical and aesthetic purposes, such as promoting healing, reducing inflammation, and rejuvenating the skin. Good candidates for PRF injections typically include:

  • Patients with aging skin seeking to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and improve skin texture; patients needing tissue repair, patients with injuries or surgeries requiring enhanced healing.

*Always consult with a qualified healthcare provider to determine suitability for PRF injections based on specific medical conditions and history.
